Healing

Healing is a basic need of Humanity — people instinctively know that sickness is an aberration, an enemy to be vanquished by any means necessary.  It is true some people get “spiritual” and then claim to find a redemptive purpose in sickness (and maybe they do) but anyone who has watched cancer eat away at a loved one knows that it is the very manifestation of Evil and must be fought and defeated by any means necessary.

I was very blessed as a convert to Christianity when I was 21 that my spiritual mentor taught me all about healing and wholeness being available to all believers.  I learnt that we can take spiritual medicine to heal our bodies and our souls.  However, just as an electrical socket needs to be plugged into before you are connected to the available power, we need to plug in to the power of God by the means of our confidence (faith) in Jesus to heal and to make whole. I needed a lot of “healing and wholeness” (a story I tell in the Appendix of this book) and so it was very helpful to me to learn these principles then and it still is now. Just this last month I have been meditating (studying) this verse:

“But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who indwells you.” (Romans 8:11)

I had been really struggling to breathe at times and had nearly passed out on my daily run.  So at least three times a day I would get this verse and chew on it, a few weeks of munching and I am running better.  That is, ‘Healing’ is sometimes miraculous but oftentimes it is a journey of taking your “medicine” and “meditating” on the Word of God, and making any changes in your lifestyle you might need to make — I got healed from serious bronchitis when I was young but my tobacco and cannabis needed to go the journey too; similarly, I had to change my diet and increase my exercise in recent years to keep me well! It is the discipline of life – stop compartmentalising your life, you are an integrated whole.  Nevertheless, the spiritual component remains of principial importance, the more time you spend taking the medicine of the Word by reading and listening to it, the more faith grows and the more you connect to the healing power of God. Remember, Jesus healed all that came to Him, whether they were Israelites or not — the same is true today, Jesus heals all if they come, healing is not just for Christians but for all that believe He will do what He said He would do:

“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.  Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you shall find rest for your souls.  For My yoke is easy, and My load is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)

There is also a difference between just getting “healed” and progressing into “wholeness” or “wellness.”  There is a story of 10 lepers calling out to Jesus for healing and Jesus told them to go and wash in the pool of Siloam, and then go to the priests to be certified as “healed” (this was the legal requirement to re-enter society).  Only one returned to give Jesus thanks (a Samaritan—a mixed race that was despised as the lowest strata of Jewish society), Jesus posed the question, ‘Were there not 10 healed where are the other 9? Why has none but this foreigner returned?’ (Luke 17:13ff) But He then spoke to the Samaritan and said his thankfulness had healed him but would also keep him well (Jesus used the perfect tense of the verb ‘to heal’ in his statement to the Samaritan, the sense of which  is to indicate something that happened in the past but the effect of which continues into the future), so be sure to be thankful to God when you receive healing, many lose their healing and never progress to wholenss because of an inner attitude of entitlement and thanklessness.

So, by all means, make use of folk medicine and modern medicine, but above all, do not forget to take God’s medicine with superior diligence, you cannot overdose on it and it has no side-effects except healing and combined with thankfulness, wholeness.  Here is a collection of resources that you will find useful if you are in the battle and seeking the victory over sickness – physical, emotional, mental or spiritual.

The following scriptures are my “go to” medicinal compounds:  Exodus 15:26, Psalm 91, Psalm 23, Psalm 103, 1-6, Isaiah 53, Matthew chs. 8 and 9, Romans 8, Gal 3:13 (useful for breaking curses – many ‘hereditary’ diseases are actually curses ), 1 Peter 2:24.  Psalm 91 took me through COVID, vaccine free despite being in a “high-risk” group.

All these audio resources below are from my archives and have been well used by me to keep me well.  You can also see me talking about this and other issues on my YouTube channel:   Part 1, Part 2, Part 3.
